Link Building Strategies For Better Search Engine Rankings

There is no other way to effectively improve search engine rankings but link building. Link building has been the most widely accepted method to improve website ranking. To consistently rank higher on major websites you need to have real good quality of incoming links. This is the most followed method used in optimizing webpages.

In this article we will discuss why link building is so crucial and also discuss a few link building strategies that have proved to be the most efficient.

The Internet is connected via links and till such time a new protocol to replace the existing HTTP is discovered there is no way out but be connected via incoming links. All the major search engines such as Google,Yahoo!, and MSN consider the quality and and quantity of incoming links before determining the value of the webpage. The logic behind this is simple – offer people something of great value and they will talk or link about it.

The number of incoming links determines your website's value. As the number of incoming links increases it means more and more people are aware of your webpage and your websites value increases. In addition, the anchor text acts as the opinion or voice of the linking site.

Basic link building strategies for better search engine rankings:

Link mix: Initially it is advisable to follow the directory submission to get some good quality incoming links. Once you get a page rank you may decide to go in for reciprocal linking. Three-way, four-way or n-way link building can be commenced but care should be taken that you have a good mixture of links. Search engines will not be able to determine a pattern to your links and you will get full value of the link building. Another strategy you may use, is to create a few supplementary websites and blogs that will support your link building exercise of the main website.

Anchor Text: Have targeted keywords in the anchor text; take care not to have the same anchor text in all the incoming links. Search engines will easily detect this discrepancy and you will not get full value. The best way to do this is to have non-commercial anchor texts such as click, here, click here etc along with the related content around the link. Keyword density in the anchor text should be sparse; you may do this by adding a few other words in the anchor text. For example, if your keyword is Texas Technology solutions, you may use 'Texas based technology solutions or 'Texas based tech solutions company'.

Linked to and linked from: Get links from related websites with different IP addresses do not get links from or to porn sites. Avoid too many footer links or sidebar links. Also try and get links to internal pages of your site.

Manual Link building: Link building activity should be carried out manually over a period of time. Avoid using automated software for submitting and getting links.

Go easy: Take your time to build links. Remember Rome was not built in a day. Gradually increase the number of incoming links otherwise search engines will get suspicious.

Avoid paid linking: As far as possible avoid paid linking. Search engines do not have a favorable opinion about paid links and generally frown upon them. In case it is unavoidable than take care not to leave any footprint of paid linking around.

Create some exclusive pages on your website that people would like to link to from their websites or blogsites.
